Six Surprising Times When Indians Became Lakhpati Overnight

So how many of us really believe in luck? Or that we are lucky enough to become a millionaire overnight? We usually do not believe in lotteries and jackpots but as a matter of fact, they do exist and people do win! It's hard to believe this, I know, but when I did my research, I found it quite believable and true.  Today I'm going to talk about how variegated Indians won lotteries and jackpots via scratch cards or lottery tickets. India is a huge vast country and a lot of times we miss out on what's happening around us. We're all so busy in our competitive lives that we miss out on opportunities to try our luck and we hardly give in to the notion of 'luck'. All we've been taught since childhood is that 'hard work will take you places' and no amount of luck will ever be sufficient if you're not a hard worker. But today, let me tell you 6 instances wherein Indians won big lotteries and jackpots. This will restore your faith in luck and would provoke you to give it a try!

Nishita Radhakrishna Pillai

An Indian woman doctor had won a life-changing lottery in Abu Dhabi of over Rs 17.5 crore in 2015. Nishita Radhakrishna Pillai, from Kerala, won the Dirham 10 million (approximately Rs 17,68,00,000) in the lottery in the Big Ticket raffle. After 50 numerous attempts at striking gold at one of the most-anticipated raffle bonanzas in UAE, the mother of two finally joined the ranks of high-net-worth individuals.

Jaiprakash Jaiswal

Jaiprakash Jaiswal got the break of a lifetime when he won the Super Lotto for a whopping Rs 17 crore. Though the Kolkata-based trader who dealt in iron scrap got only Rs 11 crore after tax deduction, we are sure he didn’t have too much to complain about. The same holds true for the lottery agent in the Hidaram Banerjee Lane from whom Jaiswal got the ticket. The agent got 1 percent of the prize money as a commission.

 Jagpal Singh

In all 44.3 million Hong Kong Dollars - that’s the sum that Jagpal Singh, an Indian-origin person living in Hong Kong won. Lucky as that was, he dropped the claim on the flat where he has lived all his life when his claim for the squatter’s right was withdrawn after being served a lawsuit. Guess you can’t have it all.

Harikumar

Harikumar, who hails from Thiruvalla in Kerala runs a tea shop in Bengaluru. He won the Thiruvonam Bumper with a prize of Rs. 6 Crore. Though that’s a hefty amount for the man who has a wife and two kids to look after, he decided to continue running the tea shop (without any upgrades) even after the lottery win.

Mohammad Basheer Abdul Khadar

A 62-year-old Indian, who was on board the Emirates plane that crash-landed here, might be the luckiest man alive as he had won a million dollars in lottery just six days after miraculously surviving the accident. Mohammad Basheer Abdul Khadar, from Kerala, was among the 300 people on board the Emirates flight EK521 which crash landed and burst into flames at the Dubai airport last Wednesday. The Dubai expatriate struck gold yesterday when his lucky ticket number 0845 was drawn in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire at Concourse A at Dubai International Airport, winning him USD 1 million (Dirham 3.67 million).

K. Sudhakaran

What this 45-year-old man named K. Sudhakaran from Kanhangad in Kerala did  sounds like something out of a folk tale. Sudhakaran runs a small shop which aside from such things as tea, sweets and cool drinks also sells lottery tickets. One day, one of his regular customers asked him to set aside ten tickets for him. Later on the same day, Sudhakaran learned that one of the ten tickets was the winner of Rs. 1 Crore. This was before the person had paid for the tickets and so Sudhakaran was under no obligation to sell the ticket to him. But, following his father’s advice, Sudhakaran gave the ticket to whom he considered to be the rightful owner.Well, weren't these people really lucky? Guess what?
