Everyone loves David Beckham; the soccer star turned model, spokesman, ambassador and entrepreneur. With more than 36 million followers on Instagram, 54 million followers on Facebook and 9 million followers on Google Plus, our hero’s fans might think they already know everything there is to know about the man. However, many people might be quite surprised to find out that there is so much more to David, than those well-known facts mentioned above (regarding his life roles). In reality there also exists many lesser known, and incredibly interesting facts regarding David Beckham and since he is celebrating his 42nd birthday this month, I have decided to share some of these (facts) with you, regarding the man considered to be one of the sexiest men alive; Mr. David Beckham himself! In 2009 the secret of David’s lifelong asthma came to light when he was seen using an inhaler when he was short of breath during a soccer match. The star later admitted to being a sufferer of the condition since he was a child. What is admirable and inspirational about this is the fact that David still triumphed and overcame his condition. I have asthma myself and I know how hard it is to excel at sports with this lung disease. Way to go, David!
Back in 2003, David Beckham signed a lifetime endorsement deal with Adidas which was widely publicized as being worth a staggering $160 million!
According to 7.org, “7: The David Beckham UNICEF Fund is David’s personal commitment over the next decade to helping children who need it most. Through 7, David will use his powerful global voice, influence and connections to raise vital funds and advocate for change for children across every region of the world and in every aspect of UNICEF’s work for children.” What is so admirable and inspirational about this is the fact that David is giving back to others by using both his fame and his own money to do good in this world. In May of 2013, David turned down a new PSG deal whilst stating the following: “I'm thankful to PSG for giving me the opportunity to continue but I feel now is the right time to finish my career, playing at the highest level." What is inspirational and admirable about this is the fact that David did not try and continue with soccer ‘past his prime’, just for the sake of financial gain from the sport. It takes a true sports hero, with a real love for the game to ‘quit while ahead’.
David Beckham has teamed up with Biotherm, which is a French brand owned by L’Oreal, to launch a full skincare and grooming range.
It is reported that David Beckham never did well in school. He therefore dropped out aged 16 and went to play soccer for Manchester United’s junior team.
As per dailymail.co.uk, “David Beckham admitted he would have become a painter if he had not made it as a professional footballer." Mr. Beckham was quoted as saying the following regarding the topic: “Art and design was always something that I loved, that I looked forward to. Because I love drawing, I love painting, it was actually something that I was really passionate about and I think if I hadn’t have become a football player I’d have gone into that.”
In a live interview that was broadcast on television, David admitted to having an obsessive compulsive disorder wherein he needs to have everything be in a straight line or in pairs. This disorder is also classified as being a phobia or fear called ataxophobia. What is amazing and inspirational about this is the fact that David actually had the courage to be open and honest about a disorder he suffers from; not many famous people would do this.
