From Russia without love

According to CNN, the Russian government has been requested to ban Disney’s new remake of the favorite fairytale, Beauty and the Beast, by order of a Russian lawmaker.

A label

The mentioned lawmaker urged the ban of the movie after first labeling it “a blatant, shameless propaganda of sin and perverted sexual relationships.”

The complaint

Emma Burrows and Tim Lister of CNN report that “[t]he complaint was detailed in a letter sent by Vitaly Milonov to the Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky and reported by state-run news agency RIA Novsti. It says the movie should not be shown in Russia if the ministry found "elements of propaganda of homosexuality."

No ruling has been made

The ministry of Culture has however not yet issued a ruling on the film, which is due to screen in Russian cinemas as from the 16th Of March.

Meanwhile in Alabama…..

As mentioned above, a drive-in movie theater in Alabama US has shunned the movie as well. Eddie Fu for COS reports that “on Thursday night, the Henagar Drive-In Theatre in northeast Alabama announced via its Facebook page that it would not be showing the film because it features a gay character.”

The Statement

As you can see on the above screenshot of the mentioned statement, the new drive-in owners decided not to screen the movie as they felt that they “need[ed] to take a stand” and “make a choice”.

In a statement made to WHNT NEWS 19, Carol Laney, a co-owner of the drive-in explained that her decisions was not meant to “send a message of hatred or bigotry” but rather one about adhering to the rules of the Christian Bible and Christianity as a whole.I am sure that when Disney decided to produce the movie, they weren’t expecting all this controversy with regards to it.
