These Twisting Turns In Boxer Vijender Singh's Life Are The Reasons For His Success

Vijender Singh Beniwal or popularly known as Vijender Singh is probably the first Indian ever to make it so big in the non-mainstream sports category of India. Ever since coming into the spotlight after the Beijing Olympics in 2008, the man has never disappeared from the front row. From his medal in the most reputed games on the planet to the movies he did in Bollywood. Vijender has always managed to be a hit on every platform. Singh has also been featured on a number of advertisements and T.V. shows which have made him something more than being just an athlete; a star athlete. He has been an inspiration for all the practising boxers, as well as for those who aspire to become a boxer. Here's a small display of the paths that took this sensational sports figure to such a platform where he and his profession seem like synonyms.

How hard is a back injury to begin with?

Initially, Vijender was not supposed to compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympics because of his back injury, but he recovered in time to win the tournament and qualified. Later he proved himself by winning the first-ever boxing medal in Olympics.

The most decorated player of boxing in India.

Vijender is India's the most decorated boxer with medals at the 2006, 2010, and 2014 Commonwealth Games, the 2006 and 2010 Asian Games, 2009 World Amateur Championships besides the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vijender Singh.

Vijender was made a Deputy Superintendent of Police by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Haryana government as a reward for his bronze medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Presented with the Padma Shri Award

Vijender Singh was felicitated with the Padma Shri Award in 2019 for his outstanding contribution to Indian sports.

A movie star

Vijender along with three other debutants was featured in a film in 2014 named 'FUGLY' which was directed by Kabir Sadanand and produced by Akshay Kumar. The movie was an average, but the prominent image of the boxer helped the movie earn a great hype. He also performed on some songs in the film.

But he decided to go for a change.

Coming back to his boxing career, after serving the nations by his performances, on 29 June 2015, Vijender decided to switch the league and go for professional boxing for himself as he signed a multi-year contract with Queensberry Promotions through IOS Sports and Entertainment.

Still an Indian athlete from the core.

When Vijender announced that he'd be adapting the professional style of boxing instead of playing for the nation, he had to face many criticisms as people framed him to be selfish. He later clarified that even he had chosen this stream, his heart still beats for the country and wants to earn a name for his nation in the other format of the same sport. But this decision has ruled him out as he can no longer participate in an amateur boxing format, like Olympics or Commonwealth.

The format changed, but not the winning habit.

After playing in the games, the boxer took a break and came back with his strongest fist ever in the professional arena of boxing.
