But it was not in the luck of the citizens of Tamil Nadu to be able to see their Amma back again. And because of this very reason, extra police had been deployed in the southern states fearing the unrest that can take place among the supporters. The former film star was so loved and respected that she got to serve the state Tamil Nadu for five times. And in her honour, we hereby would love to bring her complete life journey in front of you.
She was born on February 24, 1948, in the Mandya district of Mysore state(now known as Karnataka). She was just 2-years-old when she lost her father Jayaram. After which, her mother took her along and shifted to Bangalore. Jayalalitha took the training of the classical dance form Bharatnatyam at the age of three. Her original name was Jayalalitha but an extra 'a' was added to the spelling of her name for numerological reasons in the year 2001.
Jayalalitha was an efficient student since her childhood and was very much inclined towards the education. She was very interested in pursuing her career in law. But as her fate was defined, Jayalalithaa started working in the Bollywood movies and now she is referred to as 'Amma' due to her methodical politics.
She entered the film industry just at the age of 15 and had become one of the prominent actresses of the Kannada movies. She was the first Tamil actress who wore a sleeveless blouse because of which her movie was given the 'A' certificate. She has done a total of 140 films in about four languages: Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Jayalalithaa has also been awarded the Filmfare Awards thrice.
After seeing a decline in her acting career in the year 1980, she entered politics with M.G. Ramachandran. She was a representative of Tamil Nadu in the Rajya Sabha from 1984-1989. When Ramachandran died, Jayalalitha took over his position in the politics.
After winning the trust of people, she became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and was the youngest person to be elected for this position. She has handled the position of the Chief Minister at the terms 1991-1996, 2002-2006 and 2011-2014 and May 23, 2015- December 5, 2016.Now it has been reported that the position will be taken over by the person by whom she was being preceded and succeeded as well i.e. O. Panneerselvam
In the year 1992, her government opened an institution named "Cradle Baby Scheme" which was to protect girls and orphans. And also she initiated Amma gyms, short stay homes, lavatories, Amma canteen, Amma drinking water, bank loans, lighting in rural areas. And because of her organised policies, she was being followed and loved by many people.
Apart from being a good politician, she also had to become the scapegoat of many impositions like any other politician. Which involved embezzlement of public funds and unlawful land acquisition. She was once convicted in the case of disproportionate assets because of which she had to leave the office as the Chief Minister. It was after the Karnataka acquitted her, she regained her post back.
It is a lesser known fact for all of us that she was fond of writing. She always used to maintain her diary and was also a contributor in the Tamil magazine 'Thai.' Not only that, but she has also written a novel in the Tamil language and you will be surprised to know that she was fluent in 5 languages.
In the year 1991, she received an honorary doctorate from the University of Madras and also has been awarded by several other honorary doctorates. A movie named Iruvar was made on the life of Jayalalithaa, in which her role was played by Aishwarya Rai.
She has been ill since September 22, 2016, when she was admitted to the hospital with the problems of fever and dehydration and was reported to be discharged soon. But later, she was affected by the problem of indigestion lung. Later in the month of October, her right hand was inflamed due to which she signed poll affidavits with the thumbprint.Again, a good news came out of the hospital for the people that their Amma was fit enough to be discharged where Jayalalitha said,"Have taken rebirth because of people's prayers".In the initial days of the month December, she was reported to return to the home, but a sudden cardiac attack on the evening of December 4 made the situation critical for her and worse for her lovers. She took her last breath in the finishing hours of December 5.It wasn't a sudden demise but still the people across the country weren't prepared for her early death.May her soul rest in peace!
