15 Tricks That Lead to a Long And Happy Relationship

It takes ages to build a relationship but just a petty misunderstanding and a moment to ruin it. Having said that, let us admit that everything seems hunky dory in the initial stages of a relationship but with time, couples start taking each other for granted. This is when the relationship begins to lose its charm and paves the way for unnecessary arguments and stress, which ultimately leads to a break-up. It is not easy to step out of a relationship which once meant the world to you. Break-ups hurt, and they hurt like hell. However, the good news is that it is not difficult to nurture a relationship either. Here are some tips on how you can stay happy and enjoy a healthy bond. With these simple reminders in mind, you can live the life of your dreams with your beloved and set an example for others too.

1. Admire and appreciate each other.

It does not take much effort to compliment each other and appreciate your partner for something that deserves a little applause.

2. Give surprises.

There is hardly anyone who doesn't like surprises, provided they are pleasant in nature. So, put in some efforts to give them something to cherish for and make some occasions all the more special.

3. Don't take each other for granted.

Taking each other for granted is something you should refrain from by all means. Ignoring your loved one is the worst you can do, and there is nothing that can make up for this mindless act.

4. Don't hold grudges.

Mortals make mistakes, but they don't need to be criticised for it and scorned forever. Holding grudges or keeping a score for your partner's mistakes is simply going to worsen the situation. Learn to forgive and forget.

5. Make them feel special.

Irrespective of how long you have been in a relationship, never stop showing your beloved how much they mean to you. Make your loved one feel special by indulging in some PDAs, complimenting them in public, doing something that they like or simply by placing a little peck on their forehead. Osho says, "Be a loving person rather than in a love relationship."

6. Be supportive and encouraging.

Your partner doesn't need anyone else to support them but you. It is your emotional support and encouraging words that will work wonders on them and embolden them to go on in life.

7. Keep the past behind.

NEVER bring up your partner's or yours past unnecessarily. It will take both of you to an uncomfortable zone and things may get nasty even before you realize.

8. Offer solutions without being critical.

It is human to feel depressed sometimes for something you have done. In such times, it is wise to not criticize them and instead give them some solutions that can make things or situations better.

9. Respect each other's family and friends.

You need to understand that your loved one has had some people in their life before you stepped in. Everyone has some friends and a family that are a part of their life and will always continue to do so. Don't expect your partner to forget them or distance them for you. Instead, respect them, and you will get the same in return.

10. Maintain good hygiene.

Don't stop taking care of yourself after you enter a relationship thinking that you don't need to impress anyone anymore. A good hygienic personality goes a long way in keeping relationships working for long.

11. Communication is the key.

Talk things out; communicate and bridge the gap. Silence kills a relationship!

12. Make time for each other.

Nobody is that busy to be ignoring people who mean at least something to them. Make time for your gf/bf/spouse and show them you care.

13. Admit your mistakes.

Accepting your mistake is not going to belittle you. It will, in turn, make you look wiser and open to improvements. Learn to apologise for your mistakes and try not to repeat them.

14. Don't try to change them.

Everyone has a personality of their own and you shouldn't expect them to bring a change in their beliefs, behaviour or outlook just for you. If you love someone, accept them with the flaws instead of trying to change them.   Alternatively, you can subtly try to point out things which really need to be looked into.

15. Never compare.

Comparisons suck and have never helped anyone. They only demoralise the person and make them feel inferior. Let your partner know what you didn't quite like and how an alternate behaviour could have made things look better.   If you keep these pointers in mind, there is nothing that can stop you from enjoying a long and happy relationship.
